I took a Lyft to the airport this morning; it was less than the supershuttle would’ve been and I got to ride solo. Because I was trying to keep myself awake at 3:30 am, and because I feel obligated to fill the silences of life, I chatted. My driver, Fredy, was ex-military and the biggest fare he had was driving a couple out to Coachella. He says he makes more money driving for Uber but the quality of customer is much lower than Lyft. I couldn’t quite figure out what that meant… but since I had used Lyft this morning I must be “higher quality.” I only used Lyft though because it was three bucks cheaper than Uber’s quoted price. But at least I didn’t chow down on a croissant in his backseat and when asked to stop getting crumbs all over I didn’t threaten the driver with physical violence and berate his heritage; that was Fredy’s worst fare, an Uber passenger from WeHo.<\/p>\n

I’m not sure if I’m going to make it to the World’s Largest Cherry Pie Pan\u00a0today. Time zones and driving distances being what they are, I thought I wouldn’t arrive until it was dark. And while I assume the Sara Lee Bakery would illuminate such a Roadside Attraction, I can’t be sure. It was $40 cheaper to stay an hour south of Traverse City, site of tomorrow’s marathon, so if I do decide to head north to risk a pie sighting\u00a0today, I’d have to drive an extra two hours round trip today to make it happen.<\/p>\n

It dawns on me that because of the earth’s axis and the season, it’s a late sunset near the 45th parallel (the closest whole number latitude for the pie pan). \u00a0Given that information, I double checked the stats and the sun sets at just after 9 pm. It would still be light therefore if I go.<\/p>\n

And maybe then I could answer the question three different people have asked me – why is it a *cherry* pie pan? Can’t it do other pies? \u00a0There ARE a lot of pies in the world all generally made using the same bakeware. \u00a0What\u00a0makes this tin a cherry pie exclusive pan?<\/p>\n

All I know is that that’s how it’s billed — World’s Largest Cherry Pie Pan. And apparently three people gave it an average of three stars in google. I’m not sure what people expected… from the photos it seems like it delivers as advertised – it’s a giant pie pan. What else did they want?<\/p>\n
