Global Running Day is a marketing ploy, as surely as National Frozen Food Month, National Donut Day, or Valentine’s Day. But it’s a thing and today, June 7th, is that day.<\/p>\n

There’s a variety of discount codes for races, gear, and merch. \u00a0And in one I’m-not-under-selling-here brilliant move by apparel maker Brooks, it’s a signing day for athletes.<\/p>\n

Here’s an email clickbait advert I received from them:<\/p>\n

And ya know what? I clicked. \u00a0I signed my deal. \u00a0I briefly considered checking out just how much of my life rights I was giving up in exchange for the dollar signing bonus, the verbiage buried in the Terms and Conditions that no doubt on top of precluding my dreamt of endorsement deal with Diet Coke also stipulates they get my soul. \u00a0Joke’s on them — I sold that long ago. \u00a0So instead of really reading through them, I did what we all do when confronted with a T&C or End User License Agreement (EULA) or whatever we have to agree to when we install the latest bloated version of iTunes or sign a deal with Brooks — I ticked the box and clicked “continue.”<\/p>\n

And then I signed the contract itself:<\/p>\n

It’s a clever marketing scheme. \u00a0And at least 8301 other people agree.<\/p>\n

For Brooks, they get my contact info and whatever else is contained in those unread Terms and Conditions. \u00a0They’d buy that for a dollar.<\/p>\n
