Steve and I went down into the city to meet John Garvey.\u00a0 He took us to this place because of the name (and the food wasn’t half bad either!):<\/p>\n

What can I say?\u00a0 I’m THAT guy, I guess.\u00a0 I’m that guy who runs marathons.\u00a0 I am Run Kevin Run Dot Com.\u00a0 There’s worse things to be.<\/p>\n

It’s been a good recovery day after New Jersey.\u00a0 This morning I awoke and in short order had an email reply from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.\u00a0 They were very understanding and kind about my toll fiasco and we resolved it lickety split.\u00a0 They even gave me a telephone number to call if there’s any issue with the rental car company.\u00a0 Because I’m leery of posting others’ emails without their direct consent, I’ll leave it to MY reply to best sum up what went down:<\/p>\n

Thank you so much for getting back to me and letting me know.\u00a0 It was one of those moments of, “gosh, what’s the right thing to do here?”<\/p>\n

I really appreciate it.\u00a0 On the plus side, I came out to New Jersey to run the marathon “down the shore” and while some drizzle and winds offered challenges, the support of the volunteers and spectators was outstanding.\u00a0 Thanks to them and to you, I’m leaving New Jersey with a really positive experience.<\/p>\n

And I WILL carry change in the future!<\/p>\n

I’m pretty high on Jersey at the moment, even if I’m lamenting the whole tire debacle.\u00a0 I didn’t snap nearly as many photos as I did in Tennessee<\/a>, but here’s a good summary of my feelings regarding the two hours in Bordenton, NJ:<\/p>\n

I’m pretty sure in the mad dash that was yesterday’s soggy post-marathon-sitting-in-a-tire-store-tapping-out-an-equally-soppy-blog-post that I may have forgotten to post a finisher photo.\u00a0 Here’s me on the Boardwalk with a box of water.\u00a0 Their slogan?\u00a0 “Boxed Water Is Better.”\u00a0 Is it?\u00a0 I’m not sold… look, I love a good box wine as much as the next social drinker but I’m a bit of a purist when ti comes to water.\u00a0 Especially when the rain gets the boxes soggy… which come to think of it… why aren’t they ALWAYS soggy… I mean, they’re just boxes of water, right?\u00a0 Probably the same wax-ish technology that preclude milk cartons from getting soggy.\u00a0 Never mind… I think I just answered my own question.<\/p>\n

I was too cold and too hungry to snap a shot of the official boardwalk pretzel they handed out at the end because I scarfed it down like it were manna from heaven.\u00a0 But I did get a nice volunteer to snap a pic of me.\u00a0 It’s not the most flattering shot but when you ask somebody for a favor, you take what you can get.\u00a0 Besides, I’m not sure there ARE many flattering shots of me there days.\u00a0 That’s not a fishing comment, just a general sense of over-indulgence.<\/p>\n

Again, no photos, but Steve last night took me to the Split Rail Tavern<\/a>, a great little place in West Chester.\u00a0 The appetizer Vietnamese Tacos were, in 1990s kid parlance, “da bomb.”\u00a0 I have no regrets about the over-indulgences… but at some stage if I want to slim down I’m going to have to make some hard choices.\u00a0 But not before we get back to the Split Rail as I really do want to try their eggplant fries.<\/p>\n

This is sorta a rambling post that goes back and forth in time like some sort of bad TV episode of sci-fi schlock.\u00a0 Still, as long as we’re going past and present and future, I’ve noticed in reviewing some posts on my Surface today that photos are all wonky again — some are right side up, some are upside down, some are skewed — and I have no idea WHY.\u00a0 It’s baffling.\u00a0 My best guess is that my iPhone photos are somehow tagged with some root orientation and so no matter what I do rotating them on my computer or phone when uploaded the original orientation is maintained — be it skewed, upside down, etc.<\/p>\n

If there are any WordPress experts out there who have some fix or some indication of what I’m doing wrong, please shoot me an email — kevin@runkevinrun.com.<\/p>\n

As I’ve been borrowing WiFi from Starbucks, it’s time to bring this to a close.\u00a0 On Wednesday, I’ll start posting quite a bit from the Independence Series of Mainly Marathons.\u00a0 But in the meantime, I’m skipping the morning runs to recover a bit more.\u00a0 After all, there’s still 5 more marathons this week.<\/p>\n
