Ultimately I decided to get a lyft and head to the airport. While Marvin drove and chatted to me about his mom\u2019s recent visit to El Salvador, my phone \u201cbuzzed\u201d in my pocket. A notification from AirBNB told me my host was responding to my early morning text confirming my arrival time.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what I saw when I opened the app\u2019s inbox:<\/p>\n

I scrambled to contact AirBNB support. \u00a0It\u2019s a 45-60 minute hold time by phone or I could \u201cchat\u201d and someone would get back to me in 24 hours. \u00a0None of these were going to help much but I opted to text as it seemed unlikely I\u2019d get anyone before my flight was boarding for Denver.<\/p>\n

Scrolling through my hotel options, most are long since sold out as this is a pretty big weekend for the town. \u00a0I was able to track down a crappy Motel 6, at which I\u2019m paying close to $100 a night. \u00a0That\u2019s under the most I\u2019ve ever spent for a Motel 6… that would be a $150 per night Duluth room for Grandma\u2019s Marathon. \u00a0Still – Motel 6 came into beIng as offering $6 a night rooms. \u00a0Even with inflation, come on, man. \u00a0At that price I assume there\u2019s been no murders at the place. \u00a0Is that a plus?<\/p>\n

Basically I was already unsure about doing this trip. \u00a0Now an hour or so into it (thanks traffic!), I\u2019m really, really regretting this.<\/p>\n
