I assumed that was a good sign indicating a marked improvement over last year&#8217;s infamous 5800+ cheaters.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently I was wrong. So very, very wrong.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/13000-alleged-cheaters-at-mexico-city-marathon\/\">this Canadian Runner Magazine story<\/a>, it&#8217;s estimated that 13,000 people cheated yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>THIRTEEN THOUSAND!\u00a0 Out of 35,000 or so. That&#8217;s something like 37% of the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a1Ay, caramba!<\/p>\n<p>I especially like the detail that two local stories highlighting the cheaters prospering have since been removed, whether due to political pressure or editorial errors.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I was at the most corrupt marathon ever.\u00a0 I just didn&#8217;t realize it as it was happening.<\/p>\n<p>I would make a terrible eye-witness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, I only saw about 2 or 3 people cutting the course whilst running the Mexico City Marathon.
