I cannot believe Congress adjourned for the weekend. \u00a0In the midst of a constitutional and social crisis, a time of the greatest urgency to ensure things don’t get even worse, they’re taking the weekend off. \u00a0If ever there were a time to work through and get things done, it’d be now. \u00a0I’m just… flabbergasted. \u00a0I cannot explain how stressed and worried I am about all things all the time because of the madness of an unhinged leader and his enabling, complicit cronies. \u00a0There has to be consequences for the seditious words and treasonous actions, for the rioting and thuggery, for the insurrection. \u00a0There has to be.<\/p>\r\n

It was in this mindset that I set out this afternoon to log my Walt Disney World Virtual Half Marathon. \u00a0A cold front has moved through and it was just too darn chilly this morning for me to go out on my own to run. \u00a0Had this been a normal year, I’d have layered up and been at the start line irregardless… and regardless… of weather. \u00a0I wouldn’t have been super happy about it, but I would shivered through it and appreciated the company of miserable fellow runners. \u00a0But as is all too apparent all the time, this is not a normal year… again. \u00a0And since the only person running today with me was, well, me, I got to vote on when to go. \u00a0I opted for 11 AM when the sun was up… albeit it wasn’t THAT much warmer. \u00a0And the wind? \u00a0Oh, the wind. \u00a0Still, I do what I do.<\/p>\r\n

My mommy and Grogu encouraged me:<\/p>\r\n

I ran. \u00a0Looping through the neighborhood, taking nooks and crannies of dead end side streets to compile the mileage, I went where I usually run. \u00a0The views haven’t changed much… but somehow I thought Disney might not love me wandering about their property trying to recreate the course on my own. \u00a0That kind of humor doesn’t play well in post-insurrection America… and maybe never did.<\/p>\r\n

Anyhoo, I’m a little winded (and wind-blown) but I made it. \u00a0As I continue my recovery and rehab, I am making progress on shaving time off the lumbering fits and spurts of summer. \u00a0My leg still smarts in the dumbest way possible — the soreness and exhaustion coming on in waves and in different locations during the run and afterwards. \u00a0But I’m ok. \u00a0And in Pandemic 2020-2021, “okay” is the new “pretty good.” \u00a0So I’ll take what I can get.<\/p>\r\n

Speaking of taking what I can get, I have a confession to make. \u00a0I really should have run the whole race with a scarlet M on my shirt… but in my defense, aren’t M&Ms a form of carbo-loading? \u00a0I left my Mom a note in case she was looking for a snack.<\/p>\r\n
