Warning Signs

Posted

I neglected to post this warning sign from the St George Marathon expo. Personally, I don’t have a problem with selling your bib if you cannot run the event. I understand they want to preclude the scourge of scalpers who pre-purchase blocks of bibs and then resell them at huge markups, a la concert tickets. […]

It was a long red-eye flight on one of those airlines that nickel and dimes for every little thing. I didn’t even have a Diet Coke as they wanted to charge me for that. To their credit, they weren’t quite as bad as Spirit Airlines, infamous for charging for a glass of water. But Frontier […]

Run Crazy Horse Marathon

Posted

Short, short version: Ran just under 3:30. Tipped housekeeping $5 to get a shower afterwards. No speeding tickets on way back to airport as I used cruise control to ensure I was no more than a mile or two over the speed limit.

Prep and Landing

October 8, 2016 – Prep and Landing What a screwup today has been… and at least two thirds of that being entirely my own fault. A 6 am flight always SOUNDS like a great idea. After all, with an early departure I can just start my day and get to my destination. But the problem […]

My First Marathon Bib

Posted

This is why we go through boxes before throwing them out, even if they’ve been sitting in a closet for years gathering dust. I came across an envelope that said, “Marathon Stuff” and inside I found a few pieces from when Steve and I ran the LA Marathon… and this blast from the past: My […]

Missed Connections

I get inundated with emails from races. Anytime I sign up for an event, my name goes on some list and it gets sold or traded or bartered or some such and other events send out promo notices trying to entice me to sign up for their event. I generally only check out marathons and […]

Anticlimactic?

MarathonFoto, the official race photographers at St. George, offered a FREE downloadable finisher’s certificate. I suspect Timmy the Intern didn’t put a lot of effort into this assignment…

Eleven Days and Two Marathons From Now…

I thought it would be fun to run around the iconic Vasquez Rocks out in California.  It was an inaugural race called the SpaceRock Trail Race and it was sorts pitched right at my Trekker heart.  I mean, here’s where Captain James T. Kirk squared off against a Gorn commander and single-handedly saved our universe […]

2017 Race Roll Call!

A quick update on various “lottery” and “qualifying” races for 2017: February 19, 2017: Kyoto Marathon: IN! February 26, 2017: Tokyo Marathon: IN! (Thanks to the good folks at Travelling Fit. It’s costing me a king’s ransom, but I’m hoping my brother and mom will join me for a Japanese Double Fisted Sake and Marathon […]

September 28, 2016 – See You Real Soon?

September 28, 2016 I’m terrible at saying goodbye.  I’ve never been good at it, never liked doing it, never really learned how to do it.  And that’s big picture stuff too – I’m the worst when death is involved, the very ultimate in goodbyes.  But I’m also quite a mess when it comes to something […]
